The Midnight Collection

Reclaimed cedar is the star of this collection. Known for its light weight and resistance to decay and infestation, cedar makes an excellent medium for serving ware.

The design for this collection was inspired by test pieces my brother and I made for decorative trim pieces we were making for my house in 2020.

We employed a modern adaptation of shou sugi ban, a millennia-old Japanese finishing technique. First, the surface of the wood is deeply charred, and then the cinders are buffed into the surface and lacquered to create a beautifully textured finish that resists water, rot, and insects. It’s no surprise that this technique is most commonly employed in the making of siding for buildings.
