The Pawlowski Table

Whenever possible, I like to use reclaimed materials for my work. I always welcome a chance to add a touch of history to my pieces.

This table features a section of bowling lane, reclaimed from the western suburbs of Chicago. Specifically, this is from the middle section of the lane, made from old growth heart pine.

The legs were crafted from solid 4″x12″ support timbers taken from an old church in Evanston, IL. Each of the legs are bolted through the stretcher with thick steel rods, and rest into deep channels carved in the central stretcher. This forms a rigid, incredibly strong, and durable base needed to support the approx. 250 lb top.

I was particularly happy with the outcome of this base, and I think it nicely compliments and accentuates the top.

I hope for the chance to make more use of bowling lanes. Sadly, hardwood lanes are a finite resource, having mostly been replaced by modern synthetic lanes.
